Bargain Basement of Amateur Football? Think Again!
Castlecroft Rangers play in the forth division of the Birmingham AFA, a Saturday amateur football league with eight divisions in total. But this amateur club is like no other - and is quite possibly the second most well supported amateur club in the world (after of course Corinthian Casuals).
With over 4,000 Twitter followers, the club which was formed in 2011 seems to be a big hit on social media.
They quite often brand themselves as a 'bargain basement' club, but we here at NLFFG don't think so. In fact we think they are everything other than that!
For a club at the level they are, the amount of sponsors they have is unreal... and they're not shy to awards either! Last year they collected an award at Buckingham Palace for work against discrimination on Twitter and also won two awards in the West Midlands Non League awards for Manager of the Season and Cup Run of the Season (beating off opposition such as Stourbridge FC's FA Cup 2nd Round appearance).
This season has been a good one so far; with the seniors currently sitting 2nd in the table with a game in hand on the team above and the newly formed U21's team doing well currently in 8th place in Division 6 West.
We wish Castlecroft the best of luck for the rest of the season and hope that their chairman, by whom I only know as 'Dave', keeps their Twitter feed going strong and hopefully get 5,000 followers by the end of the season.
