Save Grassroots Football E-Petition
Grassroots football - the starting point for every player. Every kid dreams that one day they will be playing in the big leagues. Every England fan wants to see the next generation rise through the ranks and become an England hero. But how is this possible when facilities are being ripped apart to make way for housing? How is this possible when kids are being denied the opportunity to play because the council decided they would rise the price of pitch hire to a staggeringly high level, forcing clubs to fold? How is this possible when the government refuses to put money into it's national sport?
Many people complain nowadays that the nation is too fat - that our children aren't getting the exercise they need to keep them fit and healthy. And why is our nation gradually becoming bigger, you may ask? Is it down to poor parenting? Is it down to schools not implementing the right physical education lessons? Well I don't think so.
Grassroots football is a great way of keeping children active, fit and healthy. It encourages team work, communication skills, social skills and of course there is a competitive aspect (which of course will teach kids that you can't win all the time). So why is it swept aside by the government? Why do we just regard it as a bit of a kick about on a Sunday morning, when clearly grassroots football is so much more.
The Save Grassroots Football Petition was set up by David Crausby MP and it's aim is to give every child the right to participate in organised sport without the sky high costs to the people who run it, in many cases, driving them out of the game.
Over the last three seasons, TV rights have brought the Premier League an estimated £5 billion. It is the petitions aim to ensure that the government and the FA work together to get 7.5% of the Premier League's broadcasting profit, and put it back into grassroots football.
The petition can found by clicking the button below...
We would really appreciate it if you could sign the petition and share this article around - but we're running out of time to get the signatures needed. Please sign and share.
